IDF - First USB 3.0 HD webcam

If you wonder what wonderful devices to skip to the Quick-to-be-released USB 3.0, which is a real webcam High Definition Audio?

The impressive body of industry specialist camera Point Gray Research - because it is digital, the unveiling at the Intel Developer Conference this week - three Sony CMOS sensor and a USB 3.0 port, which, if the device supports the functions of the default state SuperSpeed transfer rates up to 4.8GB / s.

While Overkill for a webcam, End Point Gray makes excellent use of available bandwidth for video streaming uncompressed 1080p high definition to the host may be - which means that the computer can work under pressure and the signal analysis, can lead to both video quality and high precision of face detection and other analytical methods. Lack of compression equipment in the system also maintains the size of the camera rather thin, with a size - impressive goal in its own - does not seem unusual to a traditional VGA webcam.

Although USB 3.0 is probably the most widely available for use in external storage devices - particularly the rapidly growing SSD market, where it is still very good high bandwidth sums things forward - it is a good deal to imagine other uses for all to see this band. Now we just need to release some manufacturers USB 3.0 compatible motherboards - or PCI-Express - reasonably priced.

Laptop Battery Basics

1. Reduced is better
Consider an ultraportable or thin and light, instead of a laptop desktop replacement. The smaller screens use less energy. Going min with a hard drive running at 4200 rpm uses lessPower than a hard drive 5400 rpm.

2. Power Use
As little as possible by adjusting laptop settings. Use the Power Options to the notebook to go into business after some time. Set adjustments so that the display sounds, then the hard drive stay active a bit longer and keep the system RAM contents.

Six-core processor Intel Core I9

Following the introduction of an entirely new line of core i7 processors which are incompatible in every respect. The current range of processors Core i7, it was a headache in the office.

In particular, that Intel was firmly convinced that this new brand really makes sense. Come on, Intel, you could at least as a hyper-threaded processor core i6s Lynnfield Or just odd numbers are good cooler?

By the way, with the insistence that Intel LGA1156 Core i7 brand has meaning, and shows that there are six LGA1366 Core Gulftown code name on the road Most people assume that the new Core processor brand I9. In fact, admit that we Core i8 it is too big a bite. Specifically asked whether the new processors I9 Core, Intel has always said he could not comment on future products.
But it seems that the Gigabyte.
As part of this is the last competition - Beat Me If You Dare - Gigabyte expressly prohibited Use 'Gulftown (Core I9). This is not new, as Intel denies that Lynnfield CPU be called Core i5 several months (very accurate) rumors Months.

Intel Core i7 930 Scheduled for Q1 2010

Intel Core i7 LGA-1366 processor segment performance is in another version, after the recent introduction of the Core i7 960 (3.20 GHz). The newcomers replace the highly popular Core i7 920, and uses the firm Socket LGA-1366 platform as the best platform for high-performance desktop. The Core i7 930, like all the processors in the Core i7 900-series, is working on motherboards equipped with Intel X58 Express Chipset.

The processor comes with a clock speed of 2.88 GHz. Under the assumption that it remains the fundamental frequency of 133 MHz, we're not quite sure how the 2.88 GHz is designed with a value of bus multiplier is an integer. Since the i7 Core i7 930 replaces the 920, expected to be at the same price point of $ 299 seats. Since this version a little ahead of that of the "Gulf Town" 6-core Intel processor in the 1st Quarter of 2010 is anyone's guess whether this processor is integrated even at 45-nm process HKMG or a new 32-nm .

Large storage capacity is always high - end graphics card is not certain. Still very low - speed memory for an item in the supply of small numbers - the level advice, that people who do not accomplish a better performance will be a lot of expectations are used in common for the idea that the head of the notice a rather large frame buffer used by the GPU is one. Uninitiated easily the best jump of the specifications are, where they do not know how much the fastest graphics processor Okay.

But after the players better, and training in hardware and many of the major card components, less expensive memory such as the upper country. And well-integrated parts, a low - end financial incentives for storage of the card is almost gone.

Recently, an explosion in the industry and more complex games, graphics, and beautiful 30 "screen with 2560x1600 pixel resolution and support for the system. In the past, as well as marketing, high - end memory, perhaps, it is necessary to develop.

Color laser printer - Xerox phaser 7500

Most color laser printers and faster than a tabloid newspaper, Xerox phaser 7500DN is a unit of the class, the big one - until today, the price ($ 3300). One banner or the tabloids the size you need color printing, but it does a good job.

We test the performance of the pager 7500/DN. It's a second page, It printed plain-text pages at a rate of 28.1 pages per minute (ppm) and color pages as fast as 5.1 ppm- Xerox print run on the text page, no more than 35 ppm of the promise, but still compared to other color speed is very fast and we saw the laser test. Tabloid pages and pages printed per hour for more than four times larger, we will print the sample letter. Print quality, attractive and practical, the rules tend to cast to the skin of the orange color of the exception.

The high volume of resources can be. 500 - sheet paper supply 11.7 - by - 17 - paper ($ 600) or 1500 - Sheet - ($ 1200) 13 points 18 - to 500-inch every inch of media options. 100 - sheet multipurpose tray (MPT) to be December 6 - by - 47 - inch - 0.2, will appear in banner format. Two-sided printing is standard. My only annoyance: the panel, you can check the paper settings each time with the tray. For most printers, printer drivers, is less intrusive time.

Control Panel 6 - line, monochrome LCD (), and together, are a simple design, but I did not only leave the child - to the menu manually. Toner cartridges, you idiot - proof, the color in the color of the samples clearly can see the slots. Of the PDF - is complete with user manual, paper-based - in terms of the printer based on the Quick User Guide. Strangely, the exchange of supplies and clean and does not cover common tasks, such as paper jams.

Pager 7500/DN 'incredibly cheap large toner cartridges for each page. Black Cartridge 19,800 pages (one size) $ 330, or July 1 cent per page cost. Standard - 9600 - page cyan, magenta, and yellow ink cartridges, $ 315, or March 3 cents per color, per page cost. High - performance, color last 17,800 pages and costs $ 480 a piece, or July 2 cents per page. The one that all people with high power supply costs of four kinds of color August 9 cents. Of course, strong colors and a - will cost more to tabloid pages.

You, as well as the cost 7500/DN Xerox phaser, as well as how it is. That is, strong and fast large - format printers for posters or banners are not flashes in the range of advice. Oki Printing Solutions C8800n large-format printer, but the cost of development is not very nice.

Again, that other high - end laser mouse is slower than the mouse feels so good in Internet Explorer by default, and the surface is much more sensitive to small movements. All non - as with the mouse by default, the browser a little bit, but the accuracy is quite attractive.

Creative GigaWorks T3 speakers for PC

Clean, compact and complete, the 2.1 Creative GigaWorks T3 - Channel / Saturday is a particularly good sound quality, provide.

If the contractor / Saturday, the Creative GigaWorks T3 system, the system is very compact. However, the full diversity of the PC is found that as well - in stereo speakers provide the sound quality.

10in boxy Cubed, includes a combination of a satellite with a small subwoofer, all the thin people permanently mounted single driver on a remote to a pillar. Creative GigaWorks T3 not under the age of the bass speaker, sswahago each side on the front of the gun - the trio is in the name of the personnel system.

But this amp is true that in the future. In fact, negative aspects Driver - Audio circuit with a low severity of the secondary radiator (ABR), known as - a large and powerful bass.

Creative GigaWorks T3 e-term of the lower class, 50W subwoofer and satellite 15W per channel stereo amplifier for the amplifier with a nominal award. , To enable high performance and low-10, Class D amplifiers, often wrong, is called a digital amplifier.

Find in this system, but the audio, but audio applications, and general entertainment in the home, they are increasingly popular. Creative GigaWorks T3, however, the black box and its contents are typically hidden in the eye and desktop remote control, the baby's middle and high frequency speakers.

It is simple and the weight of the circular button, the volume can. On the floor of the two mini-jack, the headset and the other one is continuous. This is much easier to connect to a portable MP3 player, an outlet for research than on Earth.

Similarly, the integration of satellite-woofer in the media on Saturday on the reliability of the system to fail. Creative GigaWorks T3 that, even if it's not good for ear disorders in the fight to win this war is a good uniform. That rule much of the missing middle and upper frequencies of the rules is probably mild.

We create at least the balance of nature, and even a little bit to the control wheel of the great bass - heavy music can feel the modernization of production. However, very tight and we were rewarded with the rhythm of the bass, the sound of the satellite all the support. Creative GigaWorks T3 the quality of the presentation of the invitation system, a single driver instead of by the use of bi-directional - directional speakers, a phase error in said to have a little difficulty.

The network due to a combination of - filter, middle and treble frequencies for the units. Linear phase, always get the last speaker - much easier with just one driver - the space feels more realistic sound effects. Than disadvantages, small speakers, 6 octave playing, but you can expect that at the request of the large-scale, often with a low and high frequencies, one of the Creative GigaWorks T3 soft and smooth, the depth dimension is very convincing stereo base.

Top nunbusim the other hand, the frequency is too good, not what the tweeter and the speakers are smaller than grains of music Stella won the effect of softening, the structure of the hidden nature of Class D amplifiers. During this time, Creative GigaWorks T3 speakers displayed below the depth of the extension, but enough time to stop the waterfall and very accurate - Audio bukeului kikui level of appeal. In addition, the keyboard Notes Thrums acute pedal synthesizer can stabilization.

Compared to the actual figures - Fi, the Creative GigaWorks T3 is May, a real lack of transparency of the music, but the sound is good, the system's "voice" a serious gap. Existing 2 stereo speakers, a January 2 / Saturday, compared to the installation, you can take advantage of small speakers - even if it is a nest for the wiring. Creative GigaWorks T3 is, for example, is good, a principle with you, and make sure to the best Pocket PC of today, what can be. Value of less than $ 400 can be used now is a hot recommendation.

Prolink WNR1006 Wireless Router

This must be one of the smallest wireless router we’ve seen. The Prolink WNR1006 is about the same size of slice of bread but it has all the necessary functions that wireless routers should have, including Wireless N connectivity. There is a row of LEDs on top of the router that indicates the connectivity of the Ethernet ports, WLAN as well as internet activity.

There are four Ethernet ports located at the side of the router, a WAN port as well as the power connector next to it. Three huge antennas are screwed to the back of the router and when we say huge, it’s HUGE. The antennas are longer than the router itself and to be honest, it looks weird.
Setting up the router was as easy as ABC. Just follow the setup wizard on the web based user interface and you’ll be surfing your favorite site in no time. Wireless transfer speed was as good as the other Wireless N routers in the market and it’s nothing to be excited about.

The Prolink WNR1006 is great if you are looking to upgrade your Wireless G router to the new standards but does the antennas need to be this big?

Team Xtreem DDR3-1866 CL8 2GB Kit

When DDR3 entered the market, many were reluctant to transition as Intel was the only one that utilised the technology. Not to mention the extra cost of upgrading your motherboard in order to support DDR3 memory. But as time passed, prices dropped and now NVIDIA has joined in on the DDR3 game. With more people willing to purchase DDR3 RAM, the quest to provide the best performance has started. Team Group Inc. shows us how much they can push with their Xtreem series.

With the Intel X48 chipset and nFroce 790i providing a FSB support of 1.6GHz, there is now better headroom for higher speeds. With this in mind, Team Group has essentially overclocked their memory modules to a whopping 1,866MHz. At a high speed like this, normally you won’t go very far with lower timings. Fortunately, the Xtreem DDR3 modules run at 8-8-8-24 timings compared to the stick 9-9-9-24 timings. However, this overclocking has resulted in a power requirement of 1.9V, which is just a bit more than the stock voltage levels.

The kit comes with two 1G modules that are passively cooled by black aluminum heat spreaders, which seems thicker than other memory modules that we’ve tested. This could provide better conduction, however, we don’t have a proper measurement to prove it otherwise. Its stated that a four to six centimetre fan can be included upon user request.

Gamers will be pleased with Team’s Xtreem DDR3 RAM, however, the price is still quite high even though it has gone down. But as long as you have the money, we don’t see why you shouldn’t get this pack.

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse

The G9 is Logitech’s latest top-of-the-line game mouse and it’s a real whopper in terms of features. It comes with the excellent MicroGear Precision scroll wheel introduced in the high-end VX and MX Revolution mice while adding a few game-specific tricks of its own, such as a 3,200dpi maximum resolution setting and tray to add weights.

In case you aren’t familiar with Logitech’s MicroGear Precision scroll wheel, it’s actually a scroll wheel on speed – in one mode, the wheel has detents for easy switching of weapons during gameplay, but at a touch of a button, goes into “free-wheeling” mode for easy and quick scrolling when you’re viewing webpages and documents.

Unlike the MX Revolution, however, the MicroGear is not engaged or disengaged by pressing down on the middle mouse button and instead has a little switch at the bottom to disengage the gear. Apparently this was done to prevent any software conflicts with certain games.

Other than the wheel, the Logitech G9 has a couple of unique features of its own. For one, the mouse is built to have interchangeable grips, which means that it is theoretically made to fit a hand of any size.

In fact, the Logitech G9 comes with a so-called Wide Load grip and a Precision grip. The Wide Load grip is meant for general use and comes in a nice silky smooth finish while the Precision grip is slightly smaller in width and has a rough non-slip finish.

Another interesting feature is the mouse’s LED display can be switched to a variety of colours – the G9’s SetPoint software allows you to choose anything from green, blue and red to shades of purple and pink!

It’s not all for show either – the colour schemes allow you to quickly see what profile you’re in. For example, you can set it to bright red so you know when you’re in gaming mode, green when in general purpose mode and perhaps blue when you’re using an office productivity application.

You can even set it so that the mouse automatically detects the application you’re running and automatically switch between these modes. Neat.

Even cooler is that the Logitech G9 can actually store these profiles right in the mouse itself, so you don’t need to have the SetPoint software running to get it to switch profiles.

The only thing is that you do need the Logitech software to initially flash your custom profiles into the mouse.

The Logitech G9 fits all right in the hand but it certainly is not the most comfortable I’ve ever tried – it’s primarily a right-handed mouse and the Wide Load grip is a little bit wider than the Precision grip but both are a tad too wide to be truly comfortable for my hands.

For small hands, I found the Precision grip seems to be the best compromise – it’s not as wide as the Wide Load grip and has a nice rough, “grippy” feel to it, similar to the finish on the G5.

Overall, as far as comfort level goes, I’d rate the Logitech G9 at about a seven out of 10 with either handgrip. It will probably rate higher if you’re a person with medium-sized hands.

However, the interesting thing about the Logitech G9 is that you’re potentially not limited to the two grips provided – it’s possible that Logitech might introduce add-on grips later which will fit a greater variety of hand sizes.

Logitech’s SetPoint software for the Logitech G9 looks completely different from the software provided for other mice in the company’s range – it’s got a very clean and easy-to understand interface.

As mentioned before, SetPoint is the place to go when you need to change the profiles and settings of the mouse. The software even allows you to choose from an extensive pallette of colours that you can assign to the mouse’s LEDs to identify your profiles.

The Logitech G9 has three built-profiles by default – Gaming, Productivity and General, but with SetPoint you can store up to a total of five profiles with different settings of your own choosing.

Performance of the Logitech G9 was top-notch, and well it should be, considering the price. There’s so much customisation possible on the Logitech G9 that it should fulfil any user’s needs.

Once the profiles are programmed into the mouse, you actually have access to four on-the-fly resolution settings, and these settings are fully customisable in the SetPoint software – you can assign any sensitivity up to 3,200dpi for any of these five settings.

The Logitech G9 also comes with a little tray which accepts different weights up to a maximum of 28g to give the Logitech G9 the exact level of heft for your needs – I personally like my mice real heavy so I put in the maximum 7g weights into each of its four slots – not as heavy as the G5 can go, but pretty okay nevertheless.

The profiles on the Logitech G9 are very powerful and not limited to just dpi switching – you can assign keyboard macros, button assignments, LED colours and polling rates in any combination and assign that to each of the five profiles, and once stored on the mouse, it can be used without the SetPoint software to work.

Profiles can be changed by pressing the profile button on the bottom of the mouse followed by the “+” and “-” buttons normally used for switching dpi settings.

The Logitech G9 is by far the most customisable mouse in terms of software and hardware compared to any on review here.

As far as features go, the Logitech G9 is top on my list – the customisable grips and extensive profile support is truly mind-boggling.

The only feature that is a bit of a letdown is that the mouse could have been provided with a choice of grips that catered to a wider variety of hand sizes – perhaps in addition to the Precision Grip, Logitech could have provided a longer, more curvaceous grip for people with larger hands or people who like to rest their whole hand on the mouse.

Here’s hoping that Logitech does indeed produce such a grip, at which point this mouse would rate very highly indeed.

Pros: Interchangeable grips; weights provided; software gives you great flexibility for customisation.

Cons: Supplied interchangeable grips still a bit on the square side to be truly comfortable.

Maximum resolution: 3,200dpi laser

Image processing: 6.4 megapixels/second

Maximum acceleration: 20G

Maximum speed: 45-65 inches/second (depending on surface)

Number of buttons: Seven

Other features: Interchangeable grips, customisable LED colours

Samsung 245B Monitor

Samsung has always been one of the better if not the best choice when it came to desktop monitors. With screen sizes increasing steadily, the battle for desktop-monitor supremacy has moved up a gear, and now manufacturers are continually producing better and better HD monitors. Awhile ago, Samsung has deemed it necessary to produce monitors that provide decent image quality, but at a more affordable price. Of course, such a combination would come with a trade-off or some sort of compromise, which we will be exploring here.

The first thing that should be noted is the native resolution of 1,920×1,200, which is HD resolution and useful for a number of reasons; such as being able to open multiple windows at once without maximizing them and yet remain viewable. Here’s the catch; though the resolution is 1920×1200, which is enough for HD, 1,080p image should optimally be used meaning 1,920×1,080 resolution for best image quality. So should you try to plug a device that inputs 1,080p signal into the 245B, the resulting image will be scaled to fit the native resolution of the monitor, which will affect the image’s sharpness.
The stand is a decent one, though you don’t get pivot capabilities. But, you can still get the regular height adjustment, up-down angle tilting, and a twist pad built into the base of the stand allows you to pan the monitor left or right (viewing angle is 160°). The overall design is a simple black, with buttons evenly spaced between each other situated at the bottom right of the monitor. Pressing the down button brings up the the MagicBright settings, which is for you to change between various presets. The Samsung 245B has a response time of 5ms, which is great. It also has a high contrast ratio of 3000:1 on dynamic mode and 1000:1 on static mode. What actually differentiates the 245B from the other 24” monitors is the TN panel used instead of the S-PVA panel in others. This means that instead of being an 8-bit colour panel, it’s a 6-bit colour one.

This display panel proves to be a competent one for gaming purposes. One good thing about the TN panel is that it switches quickly, with a gray-to-gray response time of 5ms, and there’s no hint of motion smearing. Video-wise, the quality is decent, but not really a match for HD TVs. There’s no HDMI port, which is a bit disappointing. It has a HDCP compliant DVI port and an analogue D-sub, the standard fare. Still, without 1:1 pixel mapping the HDCP support may not be all that useful since high-definition sources you try to plug in will be scaled to the native resolution of the display panel.

Though it may not be the cheapest 24 inch display around, but it is still considerably more affordable than some of the higher end models. If you are a little tight on budget, Samsung’s 245B is one you can consider.

Logitech G13 Gameboard

The first of a range of Logitech’s new gaming peripherals, the G13 Gameboard has managed to put an interesting new twist on a gameboard that’s powerful enough to lure gamers away from their keyboards.

The G13’s mini joystick is part of the board’s overall appeal, being quite handy as most boards tend to lack this feature and in terms of dexterity. This mini joystick allows gamers extra movement to put key actions at a flick of the thumb, which is way faster than having to tap a key.

Adding to the coolness factor is that you can change the backlighting to quite a degree, being fully customizable, so you can program it to be purple, orange, dark blue, even pink if you like it. This very same screen can be used to display a timer, ingame stats (health, ammo etc) and even RSS feeds, making the board very multipurpose. Also, the programmable macros for the board are stored inside the G13 itself, so you can bring your settings with you.
The only complaint we find of here, is that the mini joystick takes quite a while to get used to, and pushing the joystick right seemed be put some strain on the thumb. Otherwise, the keys are excellent, being arranged in a concave curve and it is very comfortable to use, hours later we barely felt any strain at all.
While we don’t see the Logitech G13 becoming a staple for games everywhere anytime soon, given the amount of tech that has been stuffed into it, it is well worth the buy, even if you don’t have a massive MMORPG to use it on.

Sony DAV-F200 Home Theater System

Sometimes, true surround sound is overkill. While chair-bouncing sound pumping out of a phalanx of speakers in the living room intensifies movies viewing in the living room, it’s often easier just to set up a smaller home theater system - like the Sony DAV-F200 - and call it a day.

The two 450-watt speakers and a subwoofer simulate surround sound.

A glassy black central control panel that plays DVDs and CDs can sit on a stand or even be mounted to a wall.

It converts standard DVDs to the high-definition 1080p standard and sends them over an HDMI cable to a high-definition TV.

The speakers have a “dialogs enhancer mode” that isolates and heightens spoken parts of a film so the actors word can be heard over soaring soundtracks or explosions.

The device can also extract audio from compatible MP3 players and thumbdrives. (Fans of MP3s can turn on the portable audio enhancer to smooth out compress music files.)

With an optional adaptor, music lovers can connect their iPods and Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and laptops to the home theater system.

Sony DAV-F200 will be available in the United States next month.

Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB

When one look back it truly is amazing to see how technology has grown rapidly in the past two decades or so, especially that relating to computers. Storage capacity of today’s standard hard drive has grown quickly and prices even coming down quickly. For the same price, what you can get today may have 3 times or more the storage capacity compared to a few years back.

What do you do with a 2 Terabyte hard drive? Well games for one take up a lot of space. Not to mention most people nowadays collect large number of soundtrack and MP3s but prefer to store it on the hard drive than on CD/DVD. With 2TB you can even use it as a media server in your own home. Even if you store FLAC format music which averages about around 30MB or more, you’ll still be able to store more than 50,000 songs; way more than you really need. It is also possible to store up to 150 hours of digital video and more digital photos than you can count. The numbers varies with factors like file format but this should give you a rough idea of how much the 2TB Caviar Green can hold.
This model has a new StableTrac that helps reduce vibrations and stabilize the platters. Of the Caviar Green series, you can also be sure that this model saves on power, has lower temperatures and is quieter. Most of the other technologies built into this model is designed to lower power consumption, hence the ‘Green’. Honestly, if you are just the regular average Joe, 2TB is more than you’ll ever need, unless you do digital video or audio editing in which case you’ll never have enough. If you fall into the latter category, then this 2TB Caviar Green model is one for you.

ASUS EN9600GT Matrix Graphics Card

All the while, gamers were only concerned about whether a graphics card could deliver the power they needed for the latest games. But after one need is satisfied, another comes up. It wasn’t just performance that gamers were bothered with, now there was the issue of overheating, design, noise, etc. Come today, people are now more inclined to tweak their own cards to boost performance. It was this that gave birth to the Republic of Gamers by ASUS. This month we get our hands on the 9600GT Matrix from the ROG series!

The philosophy of ROG is to provide hardcore gamers and enthusiasts alike, the control over their gaming hardware and every aspect of it. This is evident in most of the ROG motherboards that we’ve tested and suffice to say, ASUS has done an excellent job. The first thing about ROG products is their strikingly cool appearances. Particularly noteworthy is the cooling solution on the 9600GT Matrix dubbed the Hybrid Cooler. This contraption is a combination of heatpipes, heatfins and a 60mm fan, encased under a black coloured enclosure. Because of the way it’s designed, the card takes up two expansion slots. The card sports a good range of connectors such as a DVI port, a HDMI port, an S-Video port and an S/PDIF out. Although everything has been fancy up to this point, the one thing I noticed is that four of the GDDR3 memory chips are placed on the other side of the PCB. There are eight 64MB chips altogether that make up the 512MB of memory on the card, so half of them are cooled while the rest are not (the heck?!); highly unusual for an ASUS product.

However, the design of the Matrix card isn’t the main highlight; it’s the software that comes with it. ASUS bundles an application called the iTracker, which grants gamers total control over their card, from overclocking, adjusting fan speeds, monitoring temperatures, controlling voltages…the works people. For amateur users or those who want to avoid the hassle, ASUS offers four default profiles, each catering to specific workloads. Once you’re up to it, you can start creating your own profile with your own configurations. With the Super Hybrid Engine technology, you get plenty of headroom to overclock the card. We haven’t done so ourselves, but other sites have indicated that the overclocking potential is very good.

Performance, performance, performance, is it not the main factor of a graphics card? Given that the 9600GT Matrix belongs to the lower-end segment of the video card market, we don’t expect it to be outstanding. On 3DMark Vantage, it scored 4,702 and 2,839 on Performance and High preset respectively. For games testing, the card did moderately well with World in Conflict and Supreme Commander, though Crysis caused it to strain at higher resolutions. So you should be wary if you intend to play games of the same calibre as Crysis. Under heavy load, the card’s temperature went up to 62°C, which is a let down as the Zotac 9600GT achieved the same temperature readings and it’s only a single-slot card. One thing dislikeable is the amount of noise it makes during gaming so take note.

The 9600GT Matrix package is quite awesome overall, but for a couple more dollars, you can actually get a regular 9800GTX+. Sure, it doesn’t have all the nifty features like the 9600GT Matrix, but more often than not, people prefer performance over anything else. For the average gamer, this is perfect if you want to tweak your card. If not, ASUS has a 9800GT Matrix, which we are hoping to get in the near future.

Gigabyte G-Cooler 2 Pro CPU Fan

If high performance computing is your game, you will need some serious cooling solutions. Gigabyte’s new G-Cooler 2 Pro is a CPU fan designed to keep your CPU cool during intensive loads or overclocking.

The package comes with mount for both and AMD and Intel systems. The mounting bracket fits under the motherboard, so you will most probably need to remove it from your casing. Once mounted, we have to say the G-Cooler 2 Pro was quite a sight. The large shiny ovoid looming precariously over the board. Despite its size, the G-Cooler 2 Pro doesn’t in the way of any of the motherboard’s components. If anything, you might encounter problems fitting everything into your casing.
The G-Cooler 2 Pro has a high and low option for the fan speed. At high, the fan is pretty noisy. At low, however, it is indeed very quiet. While the CPU was at idle, we measured the G-Cooler 2 to be around 3 degrees Celcius cooler than a stock Intel fan. At 100% CPU load, the G-Cooler 2 Pro managed to be a full 10 degrees Celcius cooler compared to a stock Intel fan. Even with the fan set too low, the G-Cooler 2 Pro was only 2 degrees warmer than at full speed. We then tried to overclock the CPU, which resulted in the stock temperature nearing dangerous levels. With the G-cooler however, the improvement was much more noticeable; nearly 20 degrees than a stock fan.

Gigabyte’s G-Cooler 2 Pro lives up to its expectations and is definitely recommended of you want to meddle with overclocking.

IOGEAR GFR281 Memory Card Reader

Transfering data stored in a Flash memory card to a PC can be daunting, especially when you need to keep track of multiple adapters and data cables in the process.

To make it easier for its consumers, computer peripheral maker IOGEAR Inc has introduced the GFR281 memory card reader, which does not require separate adapters for each memory card to function.

Simply remove the memory card from any multimedia gadget, insert it into the reader to instantly upload pictures, songs and documents.

The reader supports up to a whopping 56 Flash memory card types from the popular Secure Digital and CompactFlash all the way to the Olympus DC Card and MS-Pro Duo-Gaming Memory Stick.
